Come and join us in a variety of activites and help us run our own private railway

The Vale of Aylesbury Model Engineering Society has been going for over 50 years. We are a group of friendly people who welcome new members to our base at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton near Aylesbury. Here we run trains in gauges from 32mm and 45mm on our garden railway to 3½”, 5” and 7¼” on our ground level 1km track.

You don’t have to be an engineer to join us, or even have your own loco. You can learn to drive our club locos, be a guard, or do anything else you fancy, and help to give rides to the public through the running season. Actually, we are there all the year round as there is always plenty to do to maintain the site, trackwork and signals.  If your interest is in electrics, talking to people when selling tickets, serving refreshments, driving a train, gardening, or that you want to learn to use a lathe to build a locomotive then you can be sure of finding enthusiastic help and enjoyment in the company of others.

We give train rides to the public during the running season between spring and autumn whenever the Quainton Railway Centre has a steaming day. These tend to be Sundays, bank holidays, some Saturdays and Wednesdays during school holiday times. We have maintenance workdays on Wednesdays throughout the year and for members who are not retired we arrange Saturday club days once a month.

If there is anything here which might interest you, why not contact us through this website, find us on Facebook or come along when we are open and introduce yourself. There will be a cup of tea or coffee waiting and you can be sure of a warm welcome.
