Volunteers
We are an entirely voluntary run organisation, and there are many areas which require staffing in addition to the obvious need for train crews. New recruits are always very welcome!

Buildings

Shed erection, station repairs, retaining walls etc,

Cafe

We open on certain Sundays and Wednesdays between Easter and October .
Staff required to serve tea, coffee, soft drinks, pieces of cake, crisps etc. - no cooking required!

Gardening & Grass Cutting

We have several areas of both grass and "jungle" which need to be kept in good order plus a small flower bed.
Tree pruning - normally undertaken by members who have chain saws - and log fires !!

Painting & Decorating

Mainly the application of wood preservative to our various sheds from time to time.

Project Work

For instance our members have recently built a new petrol / battery loco.

Station Staff / Visitor Greeters

To welcome our visitors and direct them onto the trains - at busy times we can have 7 trains on the system at any one time with each one holding up to 15 passengers.

Track Gang

To check the track for alignment and re-pack ballast as required to ensure a smooth ride.
The site is built on London clay and following long dry (or wet) spells the track is prone to movement.

Train Duties

We can offer training on petrol and steam locos and you will have to undertake a test before being allowed to carry passengers.
